“The Ten Principles for a Moderate Malaysian.” We chose to feature them in our full page festive advertisements in The STAR using the most read English daily as the main channel to spread this message. The first advertisement was during Christmas 2014 outlining all ten principles at once – as shared in this article below. Following which, every Why this book? I advertisement from Chinese New Year 2015 till Wesak 2016, a total of ten, elaborated each principle in point detail. When we penned these principles, we took into account the mosaic features and depth of the Malaysian nation. Taking into account what moderation can do to help our country move forward as a people. We drew shared values from our traditions, religions and cultures, taking stock of our collective history and bearing in mind our common future. We want to give meaning to the word ‘moderation’ that can capture the essence of our mundane daily interactions like how we share food, to the larger issues like policy-making and community-to-community relationships. We try hard to make them universal and to stand the test of time. We chose simple words. Straight to the point and most importantly spoken from the heart.
